It’s time to register for the Northeast PA Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament on March 8, 2014 at Pocono Mountain West High School!

Click here to register your teams

Please be sure to have the following information available before you take the next step:

  • School name and address
  • Coach’s name, address, and email
  • Team members’ names and grades

Additionally, be ready to list any team member’s pertinent health or accessibility information. If any team member is involved in more than one problem, please be ready with the problem name, division, and number.

As you prepare to enter your data, please keep these guidelines in mind:

  1. Be sure that everything you enter is spelled correctly. Use upper and lower case letters appropriately. Students are distressed when they receive certificates with their names spelled incorrectly. The regional director is distressed when she has to revise hundreds thousands of data fields because of wrong case.
  2. Enter proper names, not nicknames or initials. Regardless of what your team members call each other during practice sessions, parents are distressed to see certificates made out to Lumpy or Brainless.
  3. Be certain that you are registering for the correct problem and division. You really don’t want your second graders vying against high school seniors (and vice versa).
  4. Double check email addresses. Vital communications are often misdirected or bounced back because of old or mistyped email addresses.

From this point forward, all coaches (and once they’ve been determined, your judges) should be checking in to our regional website on a regular basis. Starting in January, you should be checking our website at least once a week, and as we get closer to our major regional events (Judges’ Training on Feb. 1 and the Regional Tournament on March 8), you should be checking in even more frequently.

It takes an incredible amount of manpower to make this incredible program work for our kids. To that end, we require each membership to provide judges and volunteers. Hoping we do not have to do so, we reserve the right to assess penalty points to teams which do not provide the necessary support.
Teams must provide the following volunteers:

  • Long-term judges – one per team
  • Spontaneous judges – one for every two teams from a given district
  • Score room judges – at least one per district (one additional if your district is sending more than ten teams)
  • Untrained Volunteers– at least one per team

It is vital that we have the judge’s contact information, not the coach’s on the Judge’s Registration.

Each coach is responsible for providing copies of the general program rules (from the Program Guide) and the particular long-term problem to each of the judges representing the team. Both documents are available via the Members’ Area of the Odyssey of the Mind website. Each judge should have read through his/her particular long-term problem and the general program rules before coming to training and should bring those copies along to NEPA Judges’ Training on February 1, 2014. It is mandatory that all judges (even score room judges) attend training.

Each team is required to provide at least one volunteer who will help us out on tournament day, but is not required to attend training. That person may help out with merchandise sales, information table, door watching, or other similar duties. Our Odyssey families have been wonderful about offering a few hours on competition day. If your team can supply more than one volunteer, hooray!

Requirements pertain to both competing and Primary teams.

Please review the Coaches’ Contract and be ready to turn in a signed copy on tournament day.

As we get closer to competition, we’ll be sharing more information and reminders. It is essential that you frequently check our regional website, Facebook and Twitter for updates.

Good luck as your season progresses. I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.

All the best,

Gloria Rumberger
